The HDS/L Federal Association of the German Footwear and Leather Goods Industry (Hauptverband der Deutschen Schuhindustrie e.V.) supports, represents and protects the common interests of the German footwear manufacturers in the areas of social policy and economic policy. It is a federation of 6 regional shoe industry federations with altogether 120 members.

The main task of this federation in the area of social policy is - apart from concerning about social-political and employment political questions - to conclude wage agreements with the trade unions for the employees of the German shoe industry. 

In the area of economic policy the federation represents the interests of the German shoe enterprises opposite to government, authorities, parties, institutions under public law as well as in general public relation matters. In this function, the federation reminds, criticizes and advises the politicians in all matters concerning the German footwear industry. The federation arranges contacts between authorities and enterprises and is involved in matters when members of the government need concrete help in questions regarding economics.
